Sunday 29 March 2026 Stations of the Cross 2026 Ms. Fitzpatrick's class organised a prayer service for the school on Friday which led us through the stations of the cross. The stations walk us through the fourteen stages of Jesus's final moments before his death.

Wednesday 25 March 2026 Pyjama Day Pyjama Day 2026 was a truly memorable day as pupils and teachers turned up to school in their pyjamas! Not to be put off by the cold weather, boys and girls were cosy and warm in their fluffy nightwear.

Wednesday 25 March 2026 Easter Raffle 2026 There was great excitement in school ahead of this year's Easter Raffle. Pupils were entered into the draw having returned their sponsorship cards for the Pyjama Day Relay.

Monday 23 March 2026 First Penance Today was a very special day day for pupils in Rang a Dó as they received the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time.Like Zacchaeus in the Gospel, we sometimes make bad choices and hurt other people. In the Sacrament of Reconciliation, we can have a similar experience to Zacchaeus when we admit our sins and experience forgiveness.Thank you to Mrs. Mc Nulty and Mrs. Sherry for their work in guiding the pupils towards this special milestone in their lives. We are so appreciative to Fr. Early for sharing his time so generously with us.May God continue to bless these pupils as they prepare to receive the sacrament of First Communion in May.

Monday 23 March 2026 Swimming Success Coral Leisure in Monaghan organised an inter-primary school swimming gala on Saturday evening. A number of pupils were successful in earning individual medals in a range of different events.To add to our delight and pride, the pupils were then awarded the ‘Best School' trophy for their combined efforts. Comhghairdeas! A big well done to all who took part on the evening!

Friday 13 March 2026 Lá Glas Forget 50 shades of green, the pupils of Urbleshanny wore 500 shades of green as they turned up for school on Lá Glas. Well done to all of the pupils and their families for the efforts that were put in to preparing for Lá Glas. Thank you to the Gaelbhratach Committee for organising such an enjoyable event!

Thursday 12 March 2026 Cross Country 2026 Congratulations to all of our athletes who took part in the Cross Country Competition in Truagh today. A special mention to James and Aoife for securing individual medals in their races. The girls' team were delighted to take home the silver medal in the large schools category! Thursday 5 March 2026 Combilift Visit As part of Engineers' Week 2026, Combilift kindly offered Fourth Class a guided tour of Combilift HQ in Monaghan. Combilift is the largest global manufacturer of forklifts and look after the design, development, fabrication, assembly and dispatch of the machines to destinations across the globe.

Thursday 26 February 2026 Engineers' Week Quiz Two teams represented the school at a quiz in Clones Library organised by Engineers Ireland ahead of Engineers' Week next week. Both teams were successful in qualifying for the regional finals which will be held in Dundalk on March 4th. Maith sibh uilig!

Thursday 5 February 2026 Cumann na mBunscol Quiz Congratulations and well done to the pupils who represented the school at this year's Cumann na mBunscol county final in Tullycorbett. They did themselves and their school proud. A special word of congratulations to our senior team who finished in 3rd place. A wonderful achievement!

Monday 19 January 2026 Tylotto Presentation On Friday, Paula Treanor from the Tylotto committee presented the Board of Management with a cheque for €4,000. Paula also presented a cheque for €2,000 to Sonia and Claire from the Parents' Association.

Friday 19 December 2025 Carol Service 2025 Our annual carol service is always a wonderful event and this year's was equally special. Each class gave an outstanding performance; alternating between raising the roof and singing softly and sweetly.

Wednesday 17 December 2025 A Wriggly Nativity 2025 Junior and Senior Infants performed 'Wriggly Nativity' as their Christmas play this year. All the angels and stars, shepherds and sheep, kings and camels, innkeepers and animals wriggled and sang their way through a wonderful retelling of the nativity story. The children worked extremely hard over the past few weeks learning their songs and lines. Their hard work definitely paid off!

Wednesday 18 June 2025 Mrs Lavelle's Retirement Tá deireadh ré buailte linn nuair a fhágann Elaine Lavelle (O Dowd) a post i Scoil Náisiúnta Iorball Sionnaigh. Tháinig sí chugainn i 1987 agus d'oibrigh sí go dian dícheallach le gach dalta a bhí faoina cúram. We gathered to mark the occasion on Monday 16th June. Mrs Lavelle's sharp intellect, expertise in IT, scientific knowledge, grá don Ghaeilge, musical talent, athleticism, innovative pedagogy and leadership greatly enhanced the culture of learning in our school. Friday 13 June 2025 Senior Sports Day 2025 The senior pupils were unfortunate with the weather on their sports day this year. The torrential rain meant that the activities needed to be changed to indoor games. Everyone still got to participate in a great range of games even if they weren't what had been expected! Activities included; archery, skittles, table tennis, bingo, pictionary, card games, hoop and beanbag toss and other games. As you can see from the happy smiles, the pupils had a great day!

Thursday 12 June 2025 Rang a Ceathair's School Tour 2025 Rang a Ceathair have been eagerly anticipating their school tour for the past few weeks and on Wednesday 11th June their patience was rewarded with a tour to Funtasia in Drogheda. All of the pupils had a brilliant time in the waterpark and then bowling.

Thursday 12 June 2025 Junior Sports Day The children from Junior Infants to Second Class made the most of the good weather on Wednesday 11th June when they enjoyed a selection of activities as part of their annual sports day. Activities included parachute games, penalties, sponge races, an obstacle course, hoop throws and milking a cow!

Wednesday 11 June 2025 Fifth and Sixth Class School Tour 2025 Rang a Cuig and Rang a Sé travelled to Tanagh Outdoor Adventure Centre on 10th June for their school tour. The pupils had a really enjoyable and busy day. Activities included canoeing, rock climbing, orienteering, swimming and slippery slope.

Friday 6 June 2025 Track Athletics 2025 Well done to all the pupils who competed in the track athletics in Clones on June 5th. Congratulations to Logan, Ethan, Kajus, Ruairí, Allie, Lyla, Eimear, Kayla, Aobha, Emile, Anna, Isabella, Enya, Lochlainn, Cillian, Ryan and Tadhg who all came home with medals. When the points were added up, our school came second overall in the girls' section, and the boys took first place, bringing home the shield again. Maith sibh!

Friday 6 June 2025 Rang a Dó's School Tour 2025 Rang a Dó had an action packed school tour to High Rise NI in Lisburn on Friday 6th June. The pupils departed from the school in high spirits bright and early. After a fantastic day of soft play and wall climbing they returned exhausted! It's clear from all of the happy smiles that everyone had a brilliant and memorable day.

Thursday 5 June 2025 Rang a Trí's School Tour 2025 Rang a Trí enjoyed their school tour to Airtastic in Craigavon on the 5th June 2025. They had fun on the trampolines, free fall jumps and a gladiator challenge before finishing the day with bowling. It was surely an energetic and exciting day for them!

Monday 26 May 2025 Mrs Meehan's Retirement It was our privilege to host a gathering in our school hall to bid farewell to Mrs Sandra Meehan, long-standing teacher in Urbleshanny. Sandra came to Urbleshanny in September 1994, a fresh-faced and enthusiastic teacher and she remained a committed and dedicated member of staff since then. Wednesday 21 May 2025 Rang a Sé's Trip to Hollywood On Tuesday 20th May, pupils from Rang a Sé walked to Hollywood Park for a meet up with their ASPIRE partner schools. The pupils enjoyed a relaxed afternoon, in the glorious sunshine with other pupils from St. Mary's Boys' School and St. Louis Girls' School.

Sunday 4 May 2025 Confirmation 2025 Urbleshanny's Class of 2025 received the sacrament of Confirmation on a glorious summer's day in St. Macartan's Cathedral, Monaghan. 39 pupils from our school received the sacrament in the company of their family, friends and wider parish community.

Wednesday 9 April 2025 Lenten Fundraiser 2025 We were blessed with glorious weather for our annual Lenten Fundraiser. This year, we decided on a 'No Screen Day'. Pupils abandoned their textbooks and copies for a day of fun and games.

Monday 17 June 2024 Sleeping Beauty - The Ugly Truth Mrs. Mc Crudden's 5th class treated the school to a showing of their play, 'Sleeping Beauty - The Ugly Truth'. The drama told the story of Bella Vista - a kingdom obsessed with looks and celebrity gossip. It is down to the humble gardener to save the day!

Monday 17 June 2024 School Mass 2024 Our annual end of year mass was a poignant and memorable occasion. Pupils filed to the chapel for 11.30am for a ceremony celebrated by Fr. Early. Mrs. Milne penned a particularly emotive poem bidding farewell to our Sixth Class pupils and reflecting on their time Urbleshanny NS. Mrs Smyth concluded the occasion with a reflection on the 23/24 school year. Thanks to Mrs. Little for her hard work in organising the ceremony.

Thursday 13 June 2024 Junior and Senior Infants Tour 2024 On a miserable June morning, our bright and bubbly infants headed off on their tour to the Border Bounce gymnastics club. They had great fun practising their gymnastics skills and jumping on the trampolines. A visit from the ice-cream van was the perfect end to a busy day! The smiling faces say it all!

Thursday 13 June 2024 Girls' Cumann na mBunscol Final 2024 Commiserations to our girls who were defeated in the Cumann na mBunscol Division 2 final earlier this evening. In miserable conditions, the girls battled to the bitter end against a strong Scoil Rois side. We are extremely proud of their achievements this year. Thank you to Mrs. Smyth and Mrs. Mc Nulty for their time spent training the girls this year.

Tuesday 11 June 2024 Senior Sports Day 2024 Our senior pupils' sports day took place at Scotstown GAA Complex. They partook in a wide range of stations that included indoor soccer, GAA, tug of war, archery and an obstacle course.

Tuesday 11 June 2024 Junior Sports Day 2024 The boys and girls from Junior Infants - 2nd Class enjoyed a range of activities on the school grounds as part of their annual sports day. Thankfully, the early morning showers passed and made way for a lovely day. Activities included parachute games, penalties, an obstacle course, skittles and relay races.

Monday 10 June 2024 Third & Fourth Class School Tour Third and Fourth Class had an enjoyable day on their school tour to Todds Leap Outdoor Activity Centre in Ballygawley. The weather was on their side as they enjoyed activities including archery, the bungee run, last man standing and the zipwire. Some children even went as far to say it was the best school tour ever! High praise indeed.

Friday 7 June 2024 Athletics County Finals 2024 Thursday, May 6th 2024 marked an exciting and memorable evening for our school athletes at the Peace Link in Clones. Following much individual and team success in sprints, long distance races and the relay, both our boys' and girls' team fininshed the evening as overall winners in their respective categories.

Thursday 30 May 2024 First and Second Class Tour 2024 The boys and girls in 1st and 2nd Class enjoyed a jam-packed day at Dyan Mill farm in Caledon for their school tour. Pupils enjoyed feeding and petting the animals and everyone took full advantage of the extensive playground. After enjoying lunch in the sunshine, they enjoyed a well earned ice-cream.

Wednesday 29 May 2024 Decade of Centenaries Prize Winner Congratulations to Abi in 6th class who picked up an award in the Monaghan Libraries' Decade of Centenaries History competition. Abi wrote a story about life in Ireland during WW2. Abi was presented with her prize at the newly opened Peace Campus on Wednesday, May 29th.Abi's story had been included in our latest school newsletter for your enjoyment. Congratulations, Abi!

Friday 10 May 2024 Fifth & Sixth Class visit Muckno Fifth and sixth class pupils enjoyed a jam-packed day on their school tour at Lough Muckno. Activities included archery, team-building games, orienteering, wall climbing and paddleboarding. An enjoyable day was had by all!
